Artist's Comments

Finally! The finished product of my Eagle Owl. First of all I would like to thank =KevLewis for allowing me to use his photograph of the European Eagle Owl which can be found here: [link]

Overall I think this took about 22 hours to finish. I'm not altogether happy with the background, but I wanted it to be subtle and not take away from the striking owls. Compared to her old owl that I made for her, I think she'll absolutely love this piece.

I would like to thank all of you who commented from the start to finish! Thank you so much! Your feedback and comments mean a lot to me. =D

For the technical stuff:
Time: Around 22 hours
Medium: Prismacolor pencils
Size: 16'' x 20''
Sorry for the bad picture, the flash sort of ruined it.

Thanks again! And thanks for looking! :)

Edit: I took a picture outside and without a flash, so it turned out MUCH better. Now you can see all of the detail!

really stunning birds, great work! I really like the way you've done the background, it breaks up the blank area without taking the focus off the subject.

Now for some shameless self-promotion.....well someone's gotta do it! :D

Wow, that is beautiful :-) I Tried Prismacolor color pencils before but didn't like that you couldn't erase or have tons of layers :-) This is very, very beautiful.
:-)

Thank you very very much! I know what you mean about the pencils. You have to be careful when using them. You can't go from light to dark at all, but dark to light is a little better. It's best to find the right color and fill it in, then shade reasonably around it. :)

Nice work, your Aunt should love it.

A tip for taking a photo of your work avoiding the flash and also to get good colours is to take the drawing outside on an overcast day and take the photo.

Yea, that's what I did for my vampire werewolf. It's very rainy here today....perhaps tomorrow I'll take a picture outside and change it. Thanks! =D
